How to Change Name in TNEB Connection Online (Step-by-Step Guide)

Moving into a new home or inheriting a property in Tamil Nadu? One of the first tasks you must complete is transferring the electricity connection (EB Service Number) to your name. Previously, this required a visit to the Section Office, but TANGEDCO has now streamlined this online.

Here is the complete procedure for 2026.

Documents You Will Need

Before you log in, scan these documents as PDF/JPG (under 500KB):

  1. Sale Deed / Partition Deed: Proof that you own the property.
  2. Property Tax Receipt: The latest receipt in your name.
  3. Form 4 (Indemnity Bond): If the previous owner is deceased or not available.

The Online Process

  1. Visit the Portal: Go to the official TANGEDCO Name Transfer portal (nsc.tnebltd.gov.in).
  2. Registration: Enter your Mobile Number and verify via OTP.
  3. Link Service: Enter the Consumer Number (Region Code + Service Number).
  4. Upload Documents: Select the reason for transfer (Sale/Gift/Death) and upload the relevant proofs.
  5. Pay Fees: The name transfer fee is typically around ₹618 (for domestic) + GST. Pay this online.

How long does it take?

Once applied, the Assistant Engineer (AE) will verify your documents online. If everything is clear, the name change is usually reflected in your bill within 3 to 7 working days. You do not need to visit the office unless your application is rejected.
